PSYCHOPATH MADOFF IS REALLY TED BUNDY
January 31st 2009 21:31
Bernard L. Madoff is really Ted Bundy (yes, the serial killer).
Conservative people, those of CEO persuasion perhaps, would laugh at that. They'd point to previous posts of mine like Banks are Really Bank Robbers etc and indulge in ridicule. That's because they haven' come to grips with the new world in the way of The New York Times. For it was the NYT's journalists Julie Creswell and Landon Thomas Jnr who put forward this proposition in the January 25 edition.
They quote J. Reid Meloy, a forensic psychologists whose special expertise is the criminal mind.
"Typically, people with psychopathic personalities don't fear getting caught. They tend to be very narcissistic with a strong sense of entitlement."
Forensic psychologists see similarities between Madoff and Bundy. Bundy murdered people, Madoff murdered bank accounts, wallets and people's sense of financial security and trust. Like Bundy, Madoff used a sharp mind and an affable demeanor to create a persona that didn't exist. And when puiblicily accused, he seemed to show no remorse
"Psychopaths believe they're above the law.' Madoff courted public regulators even at the risk of exposing themselves. In a scheme like this it's very important to keep those who threaten you close to you. It would have been a heady and intoxicating experience and would have fueled a sense of entitlement and grandiosity.
ALL THIS SHOULD REMIND YOU OF THE MURDERER IN THAT GREAT NOVEL, CRIME AND PUNISHMENT. IN FACT ALL THE VERY REAL STUFF HAS BEEN REVEALED BY THE GREAT FICTION. IF PEOPLE READ THEY WOULDN'T BE FOOLED QUITE SO EASILY. AFTER ALL THERE IS NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN.
