AUSTRALIA'S MEDIA HAS LET US DOWN

September 17th 2009 03:43
Australia's media has relegated the story of what may become the world's largest oil spill to ... to where? They've dodged their responsibility; haven't investigated it by talking to experts; but only relied on the oil company's PR bullshit.

The oil spill from the Timor basin is allegedly leaking at 400 barrels a day. Who says so? The company. There is no investigation by an independent authority at the very time there should be - while it's still happening.

It should be understood that 90% of a crude oil spill sinks to the ocean floor. That's from the Texas oil recovery company that was charged with clearing the Gulf in the first Gulf War. The spill we see on the surface is only 10% of the leak and you can bet the oil company is using the floating oil as a yardstick for their 400 barrel a day. According to the math we should be thinking 4,000 barrels a day. It's just that the oil will swirl around on the ocean floor destroying creatures and food stocks. The Australian media aren't geared for the environmental catastrophes that are occurring around the planet.

They tell us they are only reporting the facts. What they mean is the facts given them by the oil company (in this case).
