Kevin Rudd wanting to promote China as a central player in the planet's economy (SEE TODAY'S AUSTRALIAN) is a little like former pm Robert Menzies backing Japan and Nazi Germany before the second world war. It means that democracy as a way of life is no longer significant to him. China's appalling treatment of Tibet, the Burmese people and the countless other human rights abuses including the treatment of their own dissidents gives us a clear take on exactly what the Chinese heirarchy is all about. They have never been transparent on any issue. What is Kevin Rudd thinking? Afterall you either have democracy or you don't. You can tell which by studying the fortunes of dissidents and whistle blowers.
