With the use of up-market ad agencies the republicans have always struck out for enlightening symbolism in their campaigns.
This time they have McCain, a war hero and independently minded party man, who can't compromise or surrender. They're pushing this hard. The symbolism is obvious. He can't surrender because he can't raise his hands above his shoulders.
The real closer for the American people - and the rest of the world - is that they can see he can't raise his arms without members of his staff beside him to hold his hands and raise them at appropriate times. The symbolism here goes beyond that of being incapable of surrendering, it drives home very effectively that McCain is also a puppet and will perform for those who really control the nation.
It's going to be a very bitter battle for the presidency because the true conservatives who want to be comfy in their bath tubs of oil want him because he is not going to inflict upon them anything that could be described as new thinking, for he can't even raise his hand to request to speak. Now Obama is going to take away the oil they have campaigned for in Iraq. To give you an idea of their power they even drafted the legislation that gives it all to them.
